Dzui's Cakes and Desserts is a dessert-focused eatery in San Jose that carries a distinctly Vietnamese and Chinese influence, especially evident in its wide selection of durian-themed pastries and drinks. Located in a bustling neighborhood near Alvin Avenue, this spot balances a casual vibe with the lively rhythms of a popular local hangout.

Stepping inside, you encounter a setting that feels less like a typical dessert shop and more like a Vietnamese street food nook—informal, with plenty of seating that encourages groups to settle in for a relaxed meal or snack session. The atmosphere is energized but welcoming, with a diverse clientele ranging from young friends catching up to older locals enjoying familiar flavors.

Dzui’s stands out for its distinct menu highlights featuring durian in various forms, from Durian Madness and Durian Crepes to the intriguing Durian Egg Tart. Beyond durian, the menu also offers a solid array of Vietnamese snacks and comfort dishes like beef stew with sticky rice, chicken curry, and rice paper salad—meals that anchor the sweet offerings well and make the place suitable for those craving a fuller bite alongside desserts.

For visitors, the best times to drop by align with the lively crowd flows—weekends and early evenings buzz with groups chatting over shared plates, while weekday afternoons offer a somewhat calmer ambiance ideal for casual meetups or taking a break after exploring the area.

What makes Dzui’s special is how it blends the dessert shop with a social dining spot. Its baked durian pastries with flaky Chinese-style crusts and occasional savory twists (like salty egg fillings) provide a taste experience firmly rooted in Vietnamese and southern Chinese traditions. Complement these with unique drinks such as durian milk tea or refreshing soursop, and it’s clear the place is designed for those looking to sample genuine local flavors within a comfortable, no-fuss environment.

Locals clearly appreciate the menu’s variety—snacks like fried quail eggs or grilled rice paper sit alongside sweets, enabling visitors to customize their visit to anything from a light, sweet treat to a more substantial snack or meal. The shop’s decor, with nods to Vietnam’s street food stalls, adds a cozy authenticity without feeling overly polished or touristy.

Whether you’re keen on exploring durian in its many dessert forms, craving a comforting bowl of beef stew, or just looking for a friendly spot to enjoy fresh milk tea with friends, Dzui’s Cakes and Desserts offers a grounded, inviting experience that reflects the neighborhood’s vibrant multicultural food scene.

Nice shop with many vietnamese/chinese desserts and pastries. Love the baked pastries with durian. It is chinese pastry. I have a salty egg inside. I don't know the name. It is round. I also love the soursoup drink. It is so refreshing. There are plenty of items to choose from. It also has plenty of seating areas.

Happened in this place and is it ever busy. We ordered the fried quail eggs(yum!!), chicken gizzards (yumm, no smell!!) These two taste best fresh. We also ordered a ton of other things but the Panda honey comb was my fave. I think about it. It was busy, packed although all Vietnamese. Varying groups socializing (young n old alike). It had an awesome energy this plan. I plan to go again.

Wow what a pleasant surprised! This is one pretty sweet place! I've been driving pass by this area many time, however never knew of this shop until one of my girlfriends invited me to meet her here. This place offers all kinds of Vietnamese Bake goods, Pastries, Snacks, Desserts, Teas, Milk Teas Bobas, Salads, and Soups. I was pretty satified that I get to tried their Jasmine milktea Boba here, Passion-Berry fresh fruit tea, and also the Spicy Bread Toasted ( Banh My Muoi Ot). I like to try the Durian Madness, Durian Crepes, and some of the tarts on my next visit. My friends and I really enjoy our time here. We had lots of fun catching up, talking, hanging out, and loving the Ambiance here. We also get the chance to take plenty of pictures together outside in the indoor/outdoor seatings area. There are so many beautiful plants and flowers! Great place for family and friends! Lovely, Beautiful, Festive Decors and Awesome Arrangements! I am Absolutely coming back to try other items, maybe Cakes or Desserts, but most deffinatly other snacks for sure!

This review is way overdue! Dzui has been one of my go-to spots in San Jose for years and it never disappoints. The toasted chili bread and mixed rice paper are packed with flavor and so addictive. For drinks, I love the peach lemongrass tea and Hambalang milk tea. Super refreshing and unique. The decorations make you feel like you’re snacking back in Vietnam, with a cozy street-food vibe that’s nostalgic and fun. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and consistently amazing food. Highly recommend!

(Super late review from Feb 2024) My sister and friends were in town from Dallas TX and wanted to try all the popular spots in San Jose. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the durian dessert at this place and have tried a bite from a friend’s purchase and it was bombbbb! Decor is pretty cute, resembles local spots in Vietnam. We ordered a drink (pictured), I honestly can’t remember what it was. I just remembered it was so watered down and just gross. The snacks and desserts on the other hand were pretty good! Desserts aren’t pictured, forgot to take pics. We ordered Viet style há cảo (har gow), and fish balls. They definitely got the flavor right and reminded me of my childhood in Saigon. If I’m in the area, I would probably stop by for the desserts and snacks. Bottom line: Great dessert and snack flavors

Good dessert with reasonable price. I wish they sell pineapple cookies in box.

The place was clean, the food was prepared quickly, and was well worth the travel. Ended up getting the tofu and corn milk. The tofu was sweet but not too sweet. The corn milk texture was consistent. Friend got the sushi bread and loved it. It has some kind of dry shredded pork like filling inside of it. If you are not a huge dessert person and prefer milk teas, they have those and regular fruit teas available as well. The menu is versatile and the food is good, I have no complaints.
